A hydro-kinetic coupling is provided with means facilitating slip in the event of an increase in resistance to the rotation of the runner. A runner b is rotatably mounted in a casing c which is bolted to an impeller a fast on a driving-shaft g. Both the impeller and runner have vanes set at an angle of 30 degrees. On the runner encountering an increased resistance, liquid is forced through holes in the circumference of the runner, through outer channels i in the casing c, past needle valves k to ball valves l. The ball valves are opened by the pressure of the oil, which then passes through inner channels in the casing back into the working chamber of the coupling.
