746,865. Soil stabilization. WERTZ, L. S. Sept. 18, 1953 [Sept. 19, 1952], No. 25812/53. Class 68(1) Apparatus for stabilizing soil comprises a hollow tube 26 that is closed at the lower' end by a boring point 27, mixing blades 28a-g secured to and axially spaced along the tube, and a conduit or conduits 31 extending from the bore of the tube 26 to some point along the rear edge of the lowermost blade or blades. The unit is connected to the lower end of a string of drill pipes and is rotated and urged downwards into the ground by a drilling rig and over the depth to which it is desired to stabilize the soil liquid cement grout is pumped through the drill pipes and discharged from the conduits to be mixed with the earth by the blades. Cement grout may, if desired, also be discharged as the drill pipes and tool are withdrawn to allow the mixture of soil and grout to harden.
