A cyclone furnace comprises several sections 1 ... 5 arranged end to end and held together by means enabling the sections to be separated, each section including a wall having an outer metal casing separated by heat-insulating material from inner cooling tubes. As shown in Fig. 1 the section 4 is frusto-conical with an inspection opening 19, section 3 has a slag outlet 16, section 2 has no inlet or outlet openings, section 1 has a fuel inlet 14 and a secondary-air inlet 15 and section 5 includes portions forming an end wall 17 and a gas outlet throat 18.
