Abstract
925,736. Gas burners. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. Feb. 8, 1962 [Feb. 9, 1961], No. 4818/62. Class 75 (1). A burner comprises an air register 18 discharging air through a sleeve 24A and a collar 26 to a combustion chamber port 11, the collar 26 being surrounded by a ring gas manifold 40 having spuds 43 projecting radially through the collar 26 into the air stream from the register 18. Air entering the register 18 from a windbox 17 is given a whirling motion by pivoted doors 22 arranged between end walls 20 and 21 of the register and actuated manually or automatically by means 23. Each spud 43 comprises a tubular portion having two diametrically opposed rows of perforations 49, 50 and two further rows 51, 52 located on the same side of the plane including rows 49, 50 and a tip having a perforated central face 46 and imperforate slanting side faces 44, 45 and perforated slanting end faces 47, 48. The spuds are screwed or welded to the manifold 40 so that the perforations 51 and 52 direct gas against the stream of combustion air from the register 18. The burner is supported by the collar 26 on the combustion chamber wall and by a cylinder 27 in a closure member 28 of an opening 29 in the windbox casing 16 through which the burner may be inserted and removed. A pivoted access door 30 closes the outer end of the cylinder 27. An oil atomizer 35 and an impeller 36 are mounted on the end of an axially movable fuel pipe 32.
