Abstract

745,918. Vehicle steps. CHADWICK, H. E. Feb. 25, 1954 [Feb. 27, 1953], No. 5520/53. Class 108 (1). [Also in Group X] A tread member 13 is supported in a horizontal position by extensions 20 provided with slots 21 engaging a transverse rod 17 and hooked ends 22 engaging pins 23 on a frame 12, which frame is movably connected by scissor pivoted links 8, 9 to supports 1 adjustably bolted to the vehicle floor or chassis. The links 9, 8 have ends which slide in slots 11 and 15 of the supports 1 and the frame 12 respectively, the relative positions of the links determining the height of the step, and the links are fixed in position by pivoted bars 16 having teeth 18 which engage a rod 14 connecting the lower ends of the links 8. The tread 13 may be pivoted upwardly through its pin and slot connections to disengage the hooks 22, and may then be turned back to a stowed position beneath the frame 12, a spring being provided to retain the tread stowed.
