744,873. Diaphragm pistons; jointmaking packing. CARTER CARBURETOR CORPORATION. Oct. 21, 1953 [Oct. 29, 1952], No. 29044/53. Classes 122(1) and 122(3) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a diaphragm fuel pump, the casing is formed of two parts 1, 20 having flanges 15, 30 between which the diaphragm is gripped. The flange 30 has a groove 35 containing a sealing ring 36 and a shoulder 32 on the flange 30 engages a shoulder 17 on the flange 15 to limit the pressure on the joint. As shown in Fig. 11, the sides of the groove 35 may be inclined, the side 35" more acutely, so that when pressure is applied, the deformation of the ring 36 causes the diaphragm to move radially inwards to provide enough slackness for the reciprocation of the diaphragm.
