Abstract

743,269. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. KELVIN & HUGHES,. Ltd. April 22, 1954 [May 1, 1953], No. 12127/53. Class 40(2) [Also in Groups XVI and XIX] Magnetic recording apparatus comprises driving rollers 11, 12 for feeding a strip 10 of material with means for continuously rotating them at different speeds corresponding to the desired speeds of the strip and means for pressing the strip into driven engagement with either or any one of the rollers. The strip 10 passes above driving rollers 11, 12 driven by an electric motor 15 so that roller 12 rotates at high speed and the roller 11 through reduction gearing 17 at low speed. A rocker arm 20 pivoted on a lever 25 carries two idler rollers 22, 23 and a spring 24 urges the arm 20 so that the roller 22 presses the paper 10 against the roller 11. The strip is.normally driven at low speed changing to high speed when a solenoid 26 is operated, its armature 27 acting, e.g., through a spring 28 to rock the arm 20. The invention may be applied to pen recorders, magnetic recorders or to recorders using photographic media,. e.g., for recording variations of electric current and the signal being recorded may effect operation of the solenoid 26 for changing to high speed.
