Abstract

675,431. Sound recording and reproducing apparatus. KUHLIK, J. M. June 23, 1950. No. 15733/50. Class 40 (ii). In a recording and reproducing apparatus employing a vibratory stylus, a film in the form of an endless band is supported on a pair of rollers, one 17 being a fixed driving roller and the other 18 swingably movable on eccentric discs 29, 30 under the influence of a spring 18<SP>1</SP> to produce the necessary tension in the film. The transducer 39 is traversed on a guide rod 43 by means of a lead-screw 46 which is engaged by a pin 44 on the transducer under the influence of a spring 55. The roller 17 is driven by a motor 20, Fig. 1, via a belt 24, wheel 21 and belt 26, and the lead screw is driven from the shaft 19 of the roller 17 by a countershaft 47 by means of worms 51, 52 and wheels 50, 53. The stylus is held in contact with the record by means of a spring 57, the tension of which may be increased when recording by the movement of an arm 59 by a control knob. Backspacing is accomplished by means of a solenoid 61 which, when operated, moves a band 64 a small amount against the tension of a spring 65 and rotates the leadscrew 46 against a friction coupling with the wormwheel 53. The roller 18 is set at an angle with regard to roller 17 so that the film tends to ride up roller 17 and register with the stepped part 37.
