In a carding-engine a suction hood is disposed over each of one or more fancy rollers and optionally over the outermost tapes of the tape condenser to carry loose fibres lifted from the swift by the fancy and the outermost slubbings by way of pneumatic conveyers to encased filters or a common filter behind each of which an impeller draws air through the hood, conveyer, and filter; the filter may be in the form of a gauze screen or grid set across the interior of a box, and access to the collected fibre is provided, as by a door in the box, so that the fibre may be periodically removed and, if required, blended back into the material fed to the carding-engine. The hood may be hinged to the mouth of a conveyer pipe and provided with hand-operated means for lifting it to afford access to the fancy.
