The pivoted lever arm of an ear clip is held positioned against the lobe by frictional means comprising pivotal joints having mutually contacting surfaces of conical formation. The external conical bearing surfaces on the ornament-supporting arm lie within the hollow conical surfaces of the pivot members on the lever arm or vice versa, and the bearing surfaces may be pressed together by external spring means or by resilient forces inherent in the arms themselves aided by spring members. As shown in Figs. 10 and 11 the hollow conical pivot members 3 of the U-shaped arm 2 carrying the ornament 10, embrace the conical pivot members 6 on the rigid lever arm 7 and the contacting surfaces are pressed together by an annular spring 9 passing through holes 5 in the arm 2 and engaging in grooves 4 in the apices of the pivot members 3. In Fig. 12 the supporting arm 11 is rigid and the lever arm 12 is of folded springy sheet metal, the frictional surface contact pressure being augmented by an inner compression spring 15. The fold 14 may be located outside the supporting arm 11. In Fig. 15 the rigid joint surfaces of the supporting arm 18 are embraced by the internal conical surfaces o members 16, 17 of the folded sheet metal arm 7 and the contacting surfaces are pressed together by an annular spring 9 passing through holes in the fold 19 and engaging in grooves 4 in the external surfaces of members 16, 17.
