Abstract

736,916. Adjusting height of railway rails. KRABBENDAM, G. June 4, 1953, No. 15389/53. Class 104 (2). The height of a rail 7 is adjusted by a wedge 8 disposed between the rail 7 and the sleeper or base plate 1 and the wedge is held in position by clamping plates 5, 6 held against the side faces of the wedge 8 by a bolt 12. The clamping plates 5, 6 form part of the base plate 1 provided with abutments 3, 4, 5 and 6 to locate the rail flange 7 and guide the wedge 8. The rail 7 is held down by screws 10 housed in bridge pieces 11 of the base plate 1 and bearing in recesses formed in plates 9 which bear directly or indirectly on the wedge 8 and on the flanges of the rail. In a modification, Fig. 3, a clamping plate 15 has a U-shaped end at one end which engages chamfered edges 16 on the wedge 8 to hold the wedge 8 in position and at the other end engages the rail flange. The U-shaped end of the clamping plate 15 may be provided with teeth or projections which engage indentations 17 in the chamfered edges 16 of the wedges 8. In this form the screws 10 are mounted in loose bridge pieces 14 which extend through apertures in the guide abutments 13 welded to the plate 1 or embedded in a concrete sleeper.
