Abstract

1,021,877. Hydraulic shock absorbers. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. Dec. 9, 1964 [Dec. 18, 1963], No. 60015/63. Heading F2S. An hydraulic shock-absorber comprises an inner cylinder 10 in which a piston works and a coaxial outer cylinder 12, the annular space 14 therebetween constituting a reservoir. A valved tube depends from the upper end of the inner cylinder such that the flow of hydraulic fluid displaced from the inner cylinder to the reservoir is damped. A bleed tube 18 is provided in parallel with the tube 16, its lower end being open and closed by a two-position valve closure member 20. The closure member 20 is the plunger of a solenoid 30, the plunger being spring loaded to an end position whereby fluid flows through the bleed tube and the passages and groove of the plunger into the reservoir. Actuation of the solenoid 30 retracts the plunger and cuts off the bleed-path.
