734,656. Making needles. PENCI, E. Sept. 16, 1953, No. 25627/53. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group VII] A sewing machine needle is provided with two diametrically opposed grooves 4, 5 of the same length and formed by means of one pressing operation. The production of a needle from an appropriate length of rod comprises the following operations : machining an end cone 8, elongating a stem 1 by means of hammering machines, feeding the rods by means of a screw type conveyer adapted to maintain the rods in a horizontal position, pressing out the grooves in a single operation by means of a suitable die, boring the eye 3 while the rod is travelling on the conveyer, removing the burrs by means of a suitable machine, forming the point 2 and a landing on the section 6 of full diameter, and finally polishing the finished needle.
