Abstract

A metal foil for electrolytic capacitors having a suface roughened by electrolytic corrosion, consists of high-purity aluminium containing up to 0.03 per cent of a metal other than beryllium or tantalu, which forms microscopic independent crystal types more noble than aluminium in the material, while avoiding the formatiion of mixed crystals, so that it accelerates the corroison process by providing a depolarizing action. Preferably the foil includes at least 0.001 per cent of nickel or platinum, but gold, cobalt, tungsten, nolybdenum, chromium and zirconium may also be used. Alternating current may be used for electrolytic corrision in an acid bath.
