Abstract

732,939. Drawing apparatus. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd. May 14, 1954 [May 15, 1953], No. 13598/53. Class 120(2). Drawing apparatus comprises a first arm 11 on which is mounted a front pair of rollers 1 and a second arm 12 carrying a corresponding rear pair of rollers 2, the arms being pivotally mounted so as to permit a limited endwise movement of the upper pairs of rollers relative to each other and relative to their corresponding pairs of lower rollers 3 and 4 so that each pair of upper rollers may individually align itself with its lower pair of rollers. In the embodiment shown the arm 12 lies partially within the arm 11 and the latter arm has a pin 18 which passes through holes 19 in a neck portion 12A of the arm 12 with some clearance. The pin 18, midway between its ends, bears on the substantially knife-edged periphery of a hole in the tongue 22 of a lug 23. The lug 23 has an elongated slot 24 by which it engages a pin 25 in an adjustable manner, the pin 25 being fixed to an outer casing 26 which is mounted on a fixed shaft 27 so as to be pivotal upwardly and forwardly. Loading of the rollers is by means of leaf spring 33, the free end of which rests on a ball 35 which bears on the arm 11 and is located thereon by a saddle 36 adjustable on the arm. The arm 11 is supported on the arm 12 by a ball 38. Loading can be applied or released by a bell crank lever 42 which has a toggle action about its pivot 43. Spring clips 47 and 48 which cooperate with pins 46 and 49 respectively are provided so that when the casing 26 is raised the arms 11 and 12 are raised with it but so that the arms can be released from the casing and from each other when necessary. A latch 31 is provided for maintaining the casing 26 in the operative or in the raised position.
