[Also in Group X] A method of evacuating an unwanted gas from an enclosed space comprises arranging a portable and preferably reversible steam, fluid, or compressed air, turbine driven fan 13 over one of the openings to blow air into, or suck air mixed with gas from, the space. In one arrangement the fan 13, having turbine blades 12 fastened on to a ring 12a round fan blades 7 and driven by steam supplied through a pipe situated at 11 and subsequently conducted into the hold to moisten the gas, is arranged over an opening 2 to force fresh air into a ship's hold 1.
