Abstract

730,383. Gas turbine plant. McCARTY, M. J. Feb. 6, 1953 [Feb. 7, 1952], No. 3307/52. Class 110 (3). An intermittent combustion gas turbine engine comprises four concentric rings 2, 3, 4, 5 of which the rings 4, 5 form the stator and the rings 2, 3 the rotor. When the rings 2, 3 rotate air is drawn into the spaces 8a formed between the rings 2, 5 through ports 7 in a plate joining the stator rings. Further rotation of rings 2, 3 causes this gas to be compressed in the space 8b from which it is discharged through wedge-shaped ports 9 controlled by sliding valves 6 into the combustion chambers 12 formed in the outer rotor ring 3. When the valves 6 are fully closed by rotation of the ring 2, fuel is injected at 11 and ignited by sparking plugs at the points 10. The combustion gases leaving the combustion chambers 12 inpinge on the fins 14 and drive the rotor in the anti-clockwise direction and are exhausted through ports 13.
