Abstract

1454360 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines M J DESMOND 9 April 1974 15600/74 Heading F1F An I.C. engine has freely-oscillating pistons 3 co-operating with fixed combustion-chamber heads 6 and supported by shafts 5 in a rotary casing having an output shaft 8 and peripheral and endwalls 7, 19, 32A. Fuel and air mixture enters the combustion chambers 2 by way of an inlet 9 in the shaft 8, a space, or "reservoir", 46, and valves 15 operated by rods and arms 21 and cams (32), Fig. 2 (not shown), externally of the casing. Ignition is effected by spark-plugs (not shown) in the heads 6. Exhaust valves 11 are opened by external linkwork (25, 31) connected to the shafts 5. Oil is introduced through passages 17, 18 to lubricate sealing rings 16, surplus oil being ejected through pipes 12, 13. The shaft 1 is mounted in supports 38, carries a flywheel 37 and contains an oil feed duct 23 communicating with the passages 18 through lines 24. More than two casings may be disposed in tandem on a common output shaft, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
