In a thermostatic valve in. which the stem 21 of a poppet valve 26 abuts against the end of a thermal element, e.g. the rod 19, and moves in a casing guide 16, the stem is spaced from the guide for the greater part of its length and has an enlargement 22 with an easy sliding fit in the guide to permit rocking of the stem.
