Abstract

727,056. Fastenings. MICROCELL, Ltd., and BENNISON, H. G. Jan. 23, 1953 [July 15, 1952], No. 17861 /52. Class 44. A fastening comprises a pair of sectorshaped plates 20, 12 arranged in spaced parallel relation, between which is rotatably mounted a latch member 11 keyed on a spindle 13 which can be rotated by a pivoted handle 14 or by a screwdriver or key. The member 11 comprises half-circular portions 26, 29, Fig. 7, of different radii, and the part 28 of the larger radius part 29 is wedge-shaped. The fastening is mounted on the periphery of the lid 33 of a container. With the handle 14 turned to bring the part 26 of the latch member towards the outside, no part of the latch projects beyond the edge of the lid, which can then be closed on to a rubber sealing ring 18 carried on a U-section metal member 34 fitted over the edge of the wall 19 of the container. On rotating the handle 14, the wedgeshaped part 28 engages a shoulder formed by a slot 35 in the wall and forces the lid down tightly against the sealing ring. The handle may then be folded down so that a projection 15 on the plate 12 passes through a hole in the handle, which may be locked by a split pin 16.
