In a refrigerator having a freezing compartment 5 refrigerated by a primary evaporator 7, 9, a relatively warmer storage compartment 16<SP>1</SP> is defined by insulated outer and inner doors 11, 15 and is cooled from compartment 5 by an evaporating - conden - sing system comprising a condenser portion 21 secured to the upper part of the inner wall of the inner door 15, a manually adjustable control valve 23 and an evaporator portion 22 secured to the lower part of the outer wall of the inner door 15. By this arrangement the bottom of compartment 16<SP>1</SP> is colder than the top and the overall temperature can be varied by adjustment of the valve 23. The shelves 19 in the compartment 16<SP>1</SP> are in the form of baskets and are attached to the door 15.
