Abstract

665,708. Refrigerators. CALUMET & HECLA CONSOLIDATED COPPER CO. July 20, 1949 [Aug. 2, 1948], No. 19118/49. Class 29 The food storage compartment 15 of a refrigerator has an opening 36 in its floor 17 beneath which is supported the evaporator 31 of a refrigerating unit, the condenser 30 and sealed motor - compressor 29 of which are located in a lower machinery compartment 16. A motor 32 in the unit drives fans 33, 34 forcing air over the evaporator 31 and condenser 30 respectively, the fan 33 circulating the cabinet air upwardly through an ice-making compartment 22 and through holes 43 in a partition 21 to the food storage compartment, from the top of which the air returns to the fan through side ducts 24 and a space 19 beneath the ice-making chamber. The ice trays 42 are supported immediately above the evaporator 31 by a grille 41. Condensation from the evaporator is drained to a tray 46 beneath the condenser by a pipe 45 and dissipated by the fan 34. The refrigerating unit is the subject-matter of Specification 664,971.
