Abstract

Granular soap compositions containing silicates are treated with carbon dioxide, whereby silica is formed on the surface of the granules and the tendency of the granules to agglomerate is reduced. The compositions may contain other builders besides silicates, e.g., soda, trisodium phosphate, pentasodium tripolyphosphate and tetrasodium pyrophosphate. The treatment may be effected in a tower down which the composition is cascaded and to which carbon dioxide is supplied. Examples are given of the treatment of a soap composition containing sodium silicate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, soda, sodium chloride, and small proportions of glycerine and perfume.
