A retainer for a shoe-lace knot which receives and encloses the knot to protect it from being either accidentally or intentionally untied, comprises two cylindrical receptacles 10, 11 each closed at one end and adapted to be releasably secured together at their open ends as by screw threaded portions 14, 21 the side wall of one of the receptacles, viz. 10, having a slot 15 extending from the open end inwardly so that part of the slot is exposed to accommodate the portions 16, 17 of the lace when the two receptacles are screwed together. The two receptacles may each have a slot 15, the releasable securing means being such that when the two receptacles are secured together the two slots form continuations one of the other.
