Abstract

725,123. Washing-machines. LOVELL MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 3, 1953 [Nov. 10, 1952], No. 30323/53. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIII] In a washing-machine having a perforate drum rotatable on a horizontal axis the drum has end headers 1, 2 with outwardly extending peripheral flanges 5 and embossings 7 to receive and locate the ends of tumbling ribs or baffles 8, a perforate sheet 6 being wrapped around and welded to the headers to form the outer wall of the drum. The baffles 8 have side walls 9 with stiffening flanges 11 at each end, stiffening flanges 12 at the edges adjacent the inner periphery of the drum and tabs 13 which overlie the flanges 5 when the baffles are in place and seat in depressions 14, the tabs being welded to the header flanges by the same welds 15 which secure the sheet 6. One or more baffles may have cut-out sections to provide an access opening 21 closed by a removable cover 22 secured by screws 23.
