Abstract
724,392. Turbine and compressor blades. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.-GES. Jan. 2, 1953 [Jan. 3, 1952], No. 191/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 110(3). A rotor blade for a turbine or compressor is formed of ceramic material and substantially only the blade root is coated with a layer of glaze, the coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the glaze being less than that of the blade material. The glaze may diminish in thickness either continuously or in at least two steps towards the blade working portion. Other highly-stressed parts of the blade such as the trailing edge may be coated with a glaze layer applied in the form of thin, narrow strips. A ceramic layer may be applied to the supporting surfaces of the blade root in addition to the glaze to form surfaces which may be machined. A development glaze may be formed on the blade root surface before applying the glaze during the firing process by applying to the ceramic body an alkaline-earth or alkali compound. Specification 664,986 is referred to.
