734,157. Turbine blades. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.- GES. Aug. 21, 1953 [Sept. 4, 1952], No. 23168/53. Class 110 (3). In a ceramic rotor blade for an axial-flow gas turbine, compressor or pump, the supporting surfaces 3 on the blade root are each coated with a foamy, porous protective layer 5. The layer 5, which consists of a glaze or other ceramic mass, is applied before the ceramic blade is fired and may be applied, as by scattering or brushing, over an initial layer of compact glaze. Local compressive stresses occurring at the surfaces 3 cause crushing of the edges of the pores of the layer 5, resulting in a closer and more extensive fit with the corresponding surface of the rotor disc.
