Abstract

723,139. Automatic-exchange systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GARDNER, E. April 1, 1953 [April 1, 1952], No. 8290/52. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] The Figure shows part of an electronic exchange system which is duplicated for each channel through the exchange. Pulses are applied to each input 5 of a series of ten switches 4, the phase of the input being characteristic of any given switch, and pulses of the same frequency as applied at 2 in common to all the switches. Each input 3 has a pulse train applied to it which has a higher frequency than that applied to lead 2 and a phase which is characteristic of its associated switch. The switches 4 each comprise a coincidence and gating circuit, Fig. 2 (not shown) (see Group XL (c) ), so that on coincidence of a pulse at any given pair of leads 2 and 5 the pulse train on the associated lead 3 is passed to the output lead 1. Only one gate can be opened at any given time and the pulses on lead 1 after being modulated are multiplexed with pulses from similar units.
