In a screw-actuated valve comprising a casing 1 having inlet and outlet passages 21, 22, and a cover 3 welded thereto, the yoke bridge piece 17 formed on the cover, the stuffing-box 30, and a member 10, 11 holding the gland-nut 9 in position are arranged to permit easy withdrawal of the valve closure member 8. As shown, the stuffing-box has a loose base ring 6 and the member 10, 11 is made in three parts, the outer ring part 11 having slotted lugs 28 engageable by swinging bolts 13 and the inner ring part being made in halves so that when the bolts are swung out of the slots and the part 11 raised the part 10 may be removed. A screwthreaded sleeve 16 engageable with the valve operating spindle 7 is secured to the yoke 17 by easily removable pins to permit the withdrawal of the valve member 8, spindle 7 and base ring 6 through the yoke.
