Abstract

720,899. Resistor grids. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 20, 1953 [May 1, 1952], No. 10681/53. Class 37. A heavy-current resistor grid, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a metal band resistance element 4 in serpentine form mounted between a pair of insulator supports 2 by means of metal brackets 8 having oppositely directed fingers or projections 10, Fig. 4, forming a cradle-like support for a bend 6 of the band resistance element 4. The two end fingers 12 prevent the band 4 from moving transversely. The brackets 8 may be secured in the insulator supports 2 by integral sheet portions 14 engaging into arcuate slots 16, Fig. 3. In a modification, Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), the brackets are secured in the supports 2 by twisted uprights retained in holes by unreleased twist. In use, e.g. in electric traction systems, cooling air contacts the bends of the band elements so that hot spots do not occur at these points.
