Abstract
212,537. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd.. (Assignees of Hineline, H. D., and Mylius, W. G.). March 5, 1923, [Convention date]. Thermal switches. -A bimetallic thermally-operated switch for use in electric protective devices comprises a number of superposed elements having an electrical length at least twice their linear length. In one modification, each element is slotted and somewhat M-shaped as shown in Fig. 6 being insulated from the next element except at one end so that the current has a sinuous path across each element and also through the pile. As shown the current normally passes through the end 2 of the device, by the bracket 6 to the pile of the thermal elements 17 whence it emerges to proceed along the bracket 8 to the other end. On the occurrence of excessive heating the strip 17 bends to bring the movable contact 26 into contact with the contact 27 and so to the terminal 13 to allow tripping as shown diagrammatically in Fig. 6. The superposed strips may be in parallel.
