In a diaphragm loudspeaker having a reflector 2, Fig. 1, in the form of a portion of an ellipsoid of revolution, the centre of the diaphragm 1 is at one form A of the ellipsoid, the axis AB of the sound beam from the diaphragm 1 makes an angle of greater than 90 degrees with the axis BA<SP>1</SP> of the reflected beam and the outlet aperture of the reflector outsid of which is located the other focus A' of the ellipsoid extends to within close proximity of the diaphragm 1. A baffle 3 perpendicular to the reflected beam may be provided. The reflector 2 and diaphragm 1 may be backed by a resonator 4, Fig. 3, having an outlet 5, the resonator being tuned to the natural frequency of the loudspeaker.
