Abstract
719,486. Friction clutches. CATT, F. A. July 20, 1953 [April 20, 1952], No. 7247/52. Class 80 (2) [Also in Group XXXIV] In a friction coupling, applicable to clutch mechanisms, of the'type wherein shoes 11 are caused to simultaneously engage a drum by radial movement caused by rotation of a cam 23, coaxial with the drum, having lobes 25 which engage rollers 20 on the shoes, the cam 23 may itself move radially to compensate for distortion or ovality of the drum. This radial movement may be arranged by the insertion of a spring ring 24 of polygonal or sinuous shape between the bore of the cam 23 and the axle 7. In another form of the clutch, Fig. 4, the central cam has teeth 28 on its lobes which coact with teeth 29 on the shoes through pinions 32.
