Abstract
700,758. Positive clutches. BLISS CO., E. W. Oct. 19, 1951 [Oct. 20, 1950], No. 25646/50. Class 80 (2). A rocking key clutch, e.g. for connecting a press flywheel 8, keyed to a bush 7, to a crank shaft 1, comprises recesses 5, 10, partly in the shaft and bush respectively, containing a cylindrical key 12 from which crescent shaped parts have been removed, as at 13, to form the clutching part, a full diameter portion 14 being left at the centre of this clutching part. The portion 14 lies in an annular groove 15 in the bush 7 and affords an additional bearing support for the key, which is thereby strengthened. A 'locking pawl 16 of known form is provided in a groove 18 of the shaft and is operatively connected to the rocking key by means of cams 19, 20, the key being urged to the engaged position by springs 24, 25 and controlled by latch means coupled to the treadle of the press. As an alternative construction, the key may be provided with more than one full diameter portion, or the full diameter portion may be enclosed in a collar keyed to the shaft and received in an annular clearance recess in the bush, which may be divided into two parts.
