Class 117 [Also in Group VI] In a tobacco thresher and winnower having a threshing drum 5 fed by a conveyer 1 and coacting with a grating 7, proper settlement through a stem discharge duct 9 of stems separated out from leaf portions in a sorting channel 8 is effected by substantially equalizing the rate of upward air flow, produced by a suction fan (not shown), in the channel 8 and duct 9, through the admittance to the channel 8 of secondary air via an opening 11 in the channel wall leading to a chamber 12 having an inlet controlled by a valve 14. A guide wall 15 for the secondary air is provided.
