Abstract

746,106. Sifting and separating. KORBER, K. Jan. 27, 1954 [Feb. 20, 1953], No. 2486/54. Class 117. [Also in Group VI] Small tobacco particles accompanying stems separated by a throwing action from leaf portions as by passing over a baffle plate 8 in front of which the leaf portions fall on to a conveyer 6, alone pass through a screen 14, as over a plate 9, to re-join the leaf portions on the conveyer 6. As shown, the throwing action is effected by a vaned roller 5 supplied by a picker roller 4 and feed roller 2 from a hopper 1. The stems pass over the screen 14, which is pivoted at 14a and vibrated by a cam 16 and spring 18, to a removable bin 15. The basic inclination of the screen 14, the height of the plate 8, and, possibly, the positioning of a guide 12 are adjustable. The conveyer 6 delivers via a magnet drum 10 and rollers 26, 27 to the tobacco channel of a cigarette rod machine. The apparatus is powered by an electric motor 20 through the drives indicated in chain lines.
