Abstract

717,323. Steam cooking apparatus. CHURCH, G. T. June 27, 1952 [June 29, 1951], No. 15518/51. Class 28(1) Cooking apparatus comprises a water chamber 13 from which a steam pipe 15 extends upwardly into an integral cooking vessel 14 having its outlet above the bottom of the cooking vessel and protected against ingress of potato or the like. As shown, a container 10, with a lid 11, is divided by a wall 12 into a chamber 13 and vessel 14. The steam pipe 15 extends from a duct 18 and is enclosed in a housing 19 having a perforated conical base 20 on which the food to be cooked rests. The water in chamber 13 is heated by an immersion heater 25 and its level is maintained by water from tank 29. Vessel 14 is filled through an opening normally covered by cap 22. A pressure relief valve 23 is provided. The container 10 is pivoted on a stand 32 and has a handle 33 carrying a spring latch 34 engageable in notches 35 in a quadrant 36 so that the container may be tilted for discharging the contents. A conical cover 38 may be provided to prevent matter entering pipe 15 if the unit 19, 20 is inadvertently omitted when charging the cooking vessel 14. Elements 25 may be controlled by a time switch.
