Abstract
715,263. Door and window frames; lintels. WHITWOOD, G. F. June 15, 1951 [June 21, 1950], No. 15493/50. Classes 20 (3) and 20 (4) Precast door or window frames have at least some of the coacting frame members connected by tongue and groove joints, the tongue of one member being engageable in a recess of a coacting member and movable laterally in the recess to slide into an associated groove, the position of the tongue being adjustable lengthwise of the groove. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 each head 3 and sill 5 has a recess 6 or 7 opening into the rear face and a groove 8 or 9 leading laterally from the recess, and the upper and lower ends 10, 11 of the jamb 1 are passed through the recesses into the grooves, permitting lateral adjustment of the jamb. The jamb may be secured by dowel rods 12 and/or bolts passing through slots 13 which permit lateral adjustment. Flanged filler blocks 14 may be used to close the recesses 6, 7. The jamb may have a longitudinal recess 16 to receive a tongue 17 on a wall slab and permit lateral adjustment, or for use with brick walls to receive the mastic filling. A longitudinal wall filler piece 18 may enter or lie adjacent the wall, being adjustably received in recesses 19 in the head and sill. Mullions 2 are also received in grooves 22, 23 through recesses 20, 21, and may be secured through lateral extensions at the head and foot. The grooves 8, 9, 22, 23 may permit vertical adjustment of the parts. A lintel 4 may be secured against the head 3 and be adjustable vertically by bolts 27 whose ends enter cut-outs 28 in the head, a filler block being eventually fitted into the cut-outs. Weather check strips or plates can be inserted at any joints, and the joints filled or finished off in known manner. The frame members may be solid or hollow and made of at least two parts, of the same or different materials, with each longitudinal joint bridged by a tie plate at the ends. The tie plates may fit into recesses and/or be located on projecting dowe's &c. The frame members may be grooved longitudinally to receive wall slabs &c. the inner part being grooved to receive a party wall. The wall slabs may be in two parts 30, 31 of the same or different materials, shaped to receive the frame members, tied by plates 32, and have interlocking tongues 33 and recesses 34.
