Class 119 A device for shooting bolts 7 into any material 57 has a handle 34 at the end opposite the muzzle, the handle constituting the trigger and being movable in a direction transverse to the axis of the barrel 1 for releasing the striker pin under the action of its spring. In the device shown the handle is mounted for rotational movement about the axis of the barrel against the action of a tension spring 37. When the muzzle of the barrel is pressed against the material 57 it moves relatively to a barrel guide 22 to compress a spring 29 which extends between the flange of a housing 30 and a surface of a striker guide 16 screwed to the barrel 1. The movement of the barrel also compresses a spring 27 surrounding the striker 19, 24, and extending between a plate 25, see also Fig. 6, on the striker and a striker guide 28 extending from the handle 34. Normally the head 26 of the striker is unable to reach the cartridge 15 by reason of the fact that the plate 25 is out of register with apertures 23 in the guide 16, but these parts are brought into register to effect firing when the handle 34 has been suitably rotated. The handle is held in place by plug-like coupling elements 44, 45, which can be withdrawn to dismantle the gun when a ring 46 with resilient tongues 47 is slidden down the barrel guide. A cup 50 surrounds the muzzle end of the barrel and is fitted with a grooved annular packing member 54. The cartridge holder 3 is removable and may be replaced by others containing, for instance, two bores containing cartridges of different diameters.
