Class 135 A shuttle valve particularly adapted to connect a fluid system alternatively to two different sources of fluid pressure, e.g. liquid and gaseous, comprises a casing 10 with an elongated valve chamber or bore 11 communicating with a central port 13, ported coupling members 18, 19 with tubular sleeves 22, 23 extending into the ends of the bore 11, and a valve member 25 with cup-shaped sleeve portions 27, 28 always in telescopic sliding engagement with the outside of the sleeves 22, 23, each sleeve portion 27, 28 having one or more passages 29, 30 adapted to be covered and uncovered by axial movement of the valve member. The passages 29 are covered before the passages 30 are uncovered and vice-versa. The ends of the sleeves 22, 23 are adapted to engage rubbery sealing rings 35, 36 mounted in recesses inside the sleeve-portions 27, 28 and held in place by headed pins or plugs 37, 38. The valve member is releasably held in either of its end positions by a detent comprising a spring-loaded ball 42 engaging one side or the other of a double conical ramp 41 on the valve stem 26. The ball 42 and its spring 43 are housed in a threaded plug 45. If the pressure at one of the ports 21 or 24 decreases substantially, the pressure at the other port will move the valve member to cut off the one port and connect the other to the central port 13.
