Abstract
712,878. Forcing liquids by gaseous pressure; air compressors. HUDSON MANUFACTURING CO., H. D. Oct. 16, 1952, No. 25992/52. Classes 8 (1) and 102 (2). In apparatus for spraying liquids by air pressure comprising a tank 10 in which an air pump is mounted in the outwardly and upwardly flared filling mouth 14, the pump cylinder 22 has a turned-over flange 23 that rests on a sealing ring 13 surrounding the opening 11. A cylinder cover 19 rests on the flange 23 and has a pair of radially outwardly and upwardly projecting arms 18, the ends 17 of which engage flanges 35, formed as cam surfaces, on the flared mouth 14 of the opening 11 so that by rotating the cover 19, the sealing ring 13 is compressed. To rotate the cover 19, the pump handle 27 has projections 31 that enter slots 33 in the cover 19 and can be rotated in grooves to engage radial surfaces. The handle may be located relatively to the tank by a latch 38 engaging in a hole 39 by moving a projection 43 and engaging it in a transverse slot 44. In this position, the container may be carried and the handle 45 of the valve 47 controlling the delivery can be operated. The upper end of the cylinder is enlarged at 49 to fit the opening 11 and the enlargement is of such length that it leaves the opening 11 to relieve residual pressure in the container 10 before the arms 18 are disengaged from the cam surfaces 35.
