Abstract

711,868. Resilient mountings; vibrationdampers. ROBINSON AVIATION, Inc. Oct. 17, 1951 [Oct. 25, 1950], No. 24257/51. Class 108(3) A vibration isolator comprises a spring 8 and a damping member 6 composed of interlocked pliable wires, disposed between a load receiving element 15 and a base 7. The base 7 forms part of a casing 1 having a hole 5 in its top surrounded by an annular resilient member 9 of less internal diameter than the hole 5. The element 15 is in the form of an inverted cup extending through the hole 5 and having a flange 15" disposed beneath the member 9. The members 6, 9 and a further member 17, are formed in a press from a mass of fine intermingled metallic wires of stainless steel or beryllium copper. The mass of wires is enclosed in a cover of woven or knitted material such as metal fabric. In operation, the member 6 provides resilience and vibration-damping. Excess loads are cushioned by action between the flange 15<11> and the members 9, 17. Lateral loads are absorbed by bending of the member 6, and engagement by the cup 15 of the inner periphery of the member 9. Drainage holes (not shown) may be provided in the casing 1. Specification 711,898 is referred to.
