485,267. Road-vehicle stub - axles. GOLDSCHMIDT, M. (Leighton, J. W.) Oct. 9,1937, No. 27485. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a wheel suspension for motor &c. vehicles the stubaxle bracket 8 is provided with one or more threaded surfaces engaging corresponding threads on a king- pin 9 or other carrier whereby the axle is permitted a pivotal movement about a vertical axis, in particular, for steering purposes, and means are provided for tightening the bearing. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the bracket 8 pivots directly on the threaded king-pin or vertical limb 9 of a quadrilateral suspension, and is provided with a slotted portion 17 and tightening bolt 18 to compensate for wear of the threads. Packing 19 in the slot 17 and washers 13, 15 prevent access of dirt &c. to the threads. At its upper end the limb 9 pivotally engages a threaded pin 24 mounted in the upper arm 23 of the suspension linkage.
