Abstract

707,539. Removing bearings from shafts. CHURCHILL & CO., Ltd., V. L. July 27, 1951 [May 16, 1950], No. 12207/50. Class 61 A tool for removing the inner cone and the associated rollers and cage of taper roller bearings from axles for use in cases where there is no clearance behind the inner cone is provided with a member adapted to press directly against and prevent the outward spreading of the roller bearing combined with means for applying endwise pull to such roller bearing and through it to the inner cone. The tool comprises a rotatable centre screw 1 passing through a rigid cross bar 2 carrying distance pieces 5 to which are attached an annular plate 7. The plate has a tapered internal aperture adapted to mate with the outer face 8 of a segmented ring 9 of double wedge shaped section, the inner face 10 of the ring being adapted to bear closely against the roller bearing. The member 9 is provided with a rim 11 which abuts against the ends of the rollers or cage. In a modification the segments of the ring 9 are keyed together by spacing studs.
