Abstract

565,204. Roller bearings. BRITISH TIMKEN, Ltd., and McNICOLL, D. July 23, 1943, No. 11980. [Class 12 (i)] The outer race of a roller bearing supporting a hollow member consists of a pressed or stamped sheet metal part A forming a closure for the member and secured to or integral with an annular pressed or stamped disc or flange B taking the end thrust of the rollers 4. A taperroller bearing for a cylindrical conveyer bearer roll has a turned or pressed inner race 1, Fig. 1, with a rib 3 and an outer race 5 forming part of member A. This member has inner and outer radial flanges 6, 7 whilst member B has a radial flange 10 with cylindrical rim 8. Flange 10 is extended inwards in the same plane or at an angle thereto to make point or line contact with the ends of the rollers. Flanges 7, 10 are secured together by welding or by indenting the rim 8 by a rib or series of projections 12 ; the assembly being secured within the roll barrel 9 by a similar rib or projections 13. The members A, B may extend around the sides of the inner race 1. In a modification, Fig. 6, the flanges 7, 10 are integral with a cylindrical doubled part 15. With cylindrical rollers, the inner race 1 is grooved to receive the rollers and the outer race 5 is cylindrical.
