Abstract

707,474. Tube joints. BROWN FINTUBE CO. Oct. 11, 1951 [April 27, 1951], No. 23706/51. Class 99 (1). [Also in Group XIII] The fluid tight joints at each end of a heat-exchanger of the type comprising an inner tube 11 for one fluid and an outer tube 10 forming with the inner tube an annular space 14 for a second fluid entering at 15 and leaving at 16, are formed by rubber-ring packed bushings 31, 32 fast with the inner tube which slide within machined extensions 33, 34 at the ends of the outer tube. Further, the inner tube is connected to a fluidconnection pipe 28 at each end by slidable flanges 24, 25 bearing respectively against a removable split ring 22 on the inner tube and a collar 27 on pipe 28, the joint ring 29 being tightened by bolts 26. The arrangement permits of ready dismantling of the tubes by sliding the inner tube through the outer tube, this being facilitated by the removal of the split ring 23 and flange 24. The flares 43 on the outer pipe facilitate assembly. The fluid pressures on the bushings equalize the forces tending to move the inner pipe but bush 31 can be fixed by screw 45 to allow the other bush to slide under heat expansion. Trough-shaped fins 12, as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,261,137, may be provided on the inner pipe.
