Abstract

<PICT:0706111/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0706111/IV (a)/2> <PICT:0706111/IV (a)/3> A jet for the production of artificial filaments and the like comprises a face plate having recesses in its outer surface and a hole in each recess such that the angle at which the recess meets the wall of the hole is not substantially greater than a right angle, the end of each hole being not more than 1.5 mils. below the surface of the face plate. Preferably the inner surface of the face plate is also recessed round each hole, for instance as described in Specification 402,450. The outer recesses may be of rectangular, curved, frustoconical or other cross-section. Grooves or channels may radiate from the outer circumference of the recesses on the outer surface. In Figs. 1 and 2 jet faces 1, 5, have holes 2, 6 with recesses 3, 7 in their outer surfaces and recesses 4, 8 in their inner surfaces. In Fig. 1 the angle a is substantially a right angle, while in Fig. 2, b is less than a right angle. Fig. 3 shows a hole 10 and recess 11 with channels 12 radiating from its outer circumference.
