Abstract
703,996. Textile combing machines. HAMBURGER WOLLKAMMEREI AKT.- GES'. Dec. 20, 1950 [Dec. 24, 1949], No. 31049/50. Class 120(1) In a combing machine for the production of tops or combed fibres of different staple lengths, an endless pin band 1, into which fibre tufts drawn from one or more feed devices and thus combed out at one end are dabbed by means of nipper elements, is guided over reversing rollers some or all of which constitute circular combs having pins which combine with the band in the region of reversal of the direction of travel thereof to form a strengthened pin field to which the fibre tufts carried by the band are delivered to complete the combing process. During one cycle of operation of the apparatus shown, a rocking lever 11 in position y commences to move in the direction,of the arrow x and driven cylinders 12 feed a portion of uncombed sliver towards a feed comb 14: a top comb 17 is lifted from the position shown and a catch 18 moves over a catch 19 on the top nipper element 4 and approximately at the same time a catch 20 on the comb 14 engages a catch 21 on the lower nipper element 5. When the lever 11 completes its movement the elements 4, 5, are closed under the action of eccentric discs 9, 10, links 6, 7, and catches 21, 20 engage so lifting the comb 14. The comb 17 may be held up by a pawl arrangement. until it can bear by its catch. 22 on a catch 23. When the lever 11 reverses, the catches 20, 21 disengage so that the combs 14, 17 fall into the sliver when they have returned to the extent required for the feeding: at the end of this reverse movement the elements 4, 5 are rapidly lowered so that the tuft is dabbed into the band 1, the elements are immediately opened, and a beater (not shown) forces the. projecting tuft ends below the element 5 and further into the band. The tufts 24 are also dabbed into a circular comb 3 at the uncombed end by guide means while the tops are drawn off by drawing-off devices 25, 26 in accordance with their different fibre lengths: noil 27 is lifted out of the comb 3 and band 1 by known devices.
