Abstract

703,563. Supporting and mounting bearings. DEUTSCHE STAR KUGELHALTER GES., May 4, 1951 [May 10, 1950], No. 10580/51. Class 12(1) [Also in Group XXIV] A bearing is mounted upon a shaft or within a housing by means of a ribbon of springy sheet metal bent to form a sleeve with the ends of the ribbon juxtaposed and having a smooth marginal portion 3 extending around the sleeve, and a corrugated portion 1 between the portion 3 and the opposite edge 2 of the sleeve which may also be smooth. The diameters of the marginal portions may or may not be equal to the median diameter of the corrugations of the sleeve. The outer ends of the corrugations are smoothly rounded and the corrugations may be slightly convex as shown in Fig. 8. The corrugations may have various shapes as shown in Figs 9, 11, and the abutting ends 23 of the sleeve may be inwardly bent, Fig. 4. In a modification, the mounting comprises two nested sleeves 25, 26 having their abutting ends 25<SP>1</SP>, 26<SP>1</SP> staggered. In a further modification, concentric nested sleeves 20, 21, Fig. 7, are spaced apart by a layer of resilient material 22, preferably of synthetic resin. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which a shaft 11 is rotatably mounted in a housing 10 by ball bearings the outer races 13 of which are mounted in springy sleeves 14 and the inner races 15 mounted on springy sleeves 17.
