Abstract
703,125. Rolling. PROPERZI, I. Dec. 19, 1951 [Oct. 27, 1951], No. 29768/51. Class 83 (4) In a method of rolling metal to increase its width without materially increasing its length, the workpiece 29 is passed endwise between an inner roll 10 and a ring roll 11 arranged eccentrically around the inner roll, the eccentricity of the ring roll to the inner roll determining the final thickness of the workpiece. The rolls are driven through pinions 6, 7, on the drive shaft 1, in the same direction at substantially the same speed, the roll 11 being carried in a large bearing 12 which is transversely movable in a housing 13 to vary the roll pass by thrust screws opposed by springs, Fig. 2 (not shown). Lubricating and cooling oil in a tank 22 is circulated through the mill by a pump 24, through a conduit 25, central bore 26 of the inner roll 10 and return pipe 28. Oil cooling means may be provided in the tank or at a point in the oil flow path. A tubular guide, Fig. 3 (not shown) guides the work 29, which may be a rod or bar to be rolled into a flat strip, either hot or cold
